Luis Muñoz was born in Granada in 1966, where he earned his Ph.D. in Spanish Literature from the University of Granada. In his hometown, he directed the university’s Aula de Literatura (1992–2000) and, from its founding until its closing (1992–2002), the poetry journal Hélice. Between 2001 and 2012, he worked in Madrid as an advisor to the Residencia de Estudiantes.In 1994, he prepared the collective volume El lugar de la poesía and has translated, among other authors, Giuseppe Ungaretti (El cuaderno del viejo, Pre-Textos, 2000). In 2008, he curated the exhibition Gallo. Interior de una revista, about the publication directed in 1928 by Federico García Lorca.His poetic work up to 2005 is collected in the volume Limpiar pescado. Poesía reunida 1991–2005. He has published the poetry books Septiembre, Manzanas amarillas, El apetito, Correspondencias, Querido silencio, Vecindad, Guadarrama—in dialogue with gouaches by Montse Lago—and Un momento. He has received, among other distinctions, the Ciudad de Córdoba, Generación del 27, and Ojo Crítico awards.Since 2012, he has been a professor at the University of Iowa, United States, where he directs the Spanish Creative Writing Program. He divides his time between Iowa City and Madrid.
